Synopsis
Before humanity can begin, someone has to invent time. Unfortunately, the three people given the job can't quite agree how it should work.
In the beginning, everything is ready. The oceans rise and fall, the stars shine, and life waits patiently to begin. Now, The Arbiter, The Keeper and The Dreamer must decide whether humanity should be given the gift of time itself.
As the three unlikely creators debate the question, they explore love, pain, memory, loss and the strange business of being alive. But when order and freedom collide, creating time turns out to be far more complicated than any of them imagined. After all, deciding to create time is one thing… building it is quite another.
Blending philosophy with comedy, A Matter of Time is a warm, witty and thought-provoking play that asks what makes life truly meaningful. If everything must eventually end, does that make it less precious… or more?
Written for three richly rewarding principal roles, all of which may be played by either male or female actors, A Matter of Time offers directors complete flexibility in casting. The play also includes two optional non-speaking characters who may be staged as written, represented in other imaginative ways, or omitted entirely to suit the director's vision. With minimal set requirements and complete freedom of interpretation, it provides a blank canvas for creativity while delivering humour, heart and genuine emotional depth.
