While We Wait

Drama

Synopsis

In a hospital waiting room, two strangers sit with their phones and their fears. Alex, a climate-change protester, waits for news of Gemma, her injured partner. Martha, stoic and sharp-tongued, waits for Ian, her son, a police officer caught up in the same protest.

A story about how words can wound, protect or fail us, and how sometimes the bravest thing to say is nothing. Exploring language and meaning, generational division, protest versus duty and the limits of communication, the play finds compassion in unlikely places.
